Department Profile

The Department of Zoology, Mohanlal Sukhadia University (erstwhile Udaipur University) at Udaipur is a State University established by an Act in the year 1964 to cater the needs of higher education in Southern Rajasthan. The Department has proved its worth by producing a brigade of highly qualified professionals, Scientists, Academicians and Scholars. The Department has made a mark at National level by the achievement of Padma Shree Award by Dr. G.C. Mishra, Shanti Swroop Bhatnagar Award to Prof. S. S. Guraya, Prof. Bhomitra Dev (Vice- Chancellor, Mangla  Yatan University and University of Gorakhpur), Prof Madhu Sudan Sharma (Vice – Chancellor, Kota University), Best Scientist Award (Env. Science), Erasmus Mundus Fellowship For Faculty Improvement & Dr. V.P. Sharma Gold Medal to Prof. Arti Prasad, Prof. R S Paroda Best Presentation Award  to Dr. Vijay Kumar Koli and Dr. Girima Nagda, State Level Role Model Award by Govt. Of Rajasthan to Dr. Deepak Raval and Best Poster Presentation Award by Zoological Survey of India, Govt. of India to Dr. Devendra Kumar. The department offers Post graduate degree in zoology with specialization in Entomology, Wild life biology and Limnology and Fisheries. Major thrust areas of research in The Department are Vector control, public health entomology, vector and pest bionomics and surveillance, Wild life biology, Chironomid biology and Heavy metal toxicology. The department  represents over 10 Indian states apart from attracting foreign students.
